Jean-Louis Decock

Dancer DDDD Vietnam

BIOGRAPHY

“Dance has always been my outlet. For me it was the only way to show the world who I am. When I graduated I was afraid I would be found too small to find a job as a professional dancer, but thanks to De Dutch Junior Dance Division I have been given the opportunity to further pursue my dream”.

Jean-Louis Decock (Vietnam, 1995) was adopted at a young age and grew up in Belgium. He started dancing at the age of 4 at Pirouette Dance Studio in Wevelgem. There he took his first dance classes and started dancing classical ballet and jazz dance. At the age of 12 he was accepted at the Royal Ballet School of Antwerp. There he improved his classical technique and was introduced to modern dance, Graham technique, Spanish dance and character dance. He danced in various productions like ‘Blue Bird’, ‘Sleeping Beauty’, ‘The Nutcracker’, ‘Apalachian Spring’ by Michael Shannon and ‘Gravity’ by Kevin Derwael. In 2013 he was invited to dance at the gala in Maribos (Slovenia). In 2014 he graduated from the Royal Ballet School and was accepted for De Dutch Junior Dance Division in The Hague, where he currently lives.
Jean-Louis will tell us his personal story and show us how dance is a means to convey a message for peace.
